Mangalore, Feb 2, 2014: A Dalit leader who participated in the SC ST grievance redressal meeting held at the SP office in the city on February 2, Sunday has alleged that twp students belonging to the Moger community were pursuing education at Mangalore University after obtaining seats under SC/ST category.
The Dalit leader named Narayan V Shiroor of SC/ST Reservation Protection Committee has said that the provision of seats to Mogers under SC/ST quota deprived the eligible SC/ST beneficiaries of seats.
He said the matter has already been brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner and added there were plans to hold a symbolic protest at the University premises at Konaje opposing this.
Narayan also alleged that fake caste certificates were being issued without verification.
Another demand heard at the meeting was to cancel the fake SC/ST caste certificates issued to people who did not belong to the category.
Several other Dalit leaders including DSS District Convenor Keshava urged the authorities not to offer reservation facilities to immigrants from Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu who are settled in the district. He strongly opposed issuing caste certificates to them.
SP Shanthanu Sinha chaired the meeting. Additional SP Shivakumar was also present.
