Kasargod, July 22, 2013 : Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed in Kasargod and Hosadurg taluks for a period of one week following the tension that prevailed in Kumble over a Facebook comment offending Prophet Mohammad. A person named Arun Kumar (27) has been arrested on the charges of posting derogatory comments.

Minor clashes have been reported at Kumble where a temple was also stoned. There have also been reports of pelting stones on three shops in Kasargod.The police have also prohibited movement of two-wheelers  between 6pm and 6 am for one week.


On July 21, Sunday  the Kasargod-Mayippady-Seetangaoli bus stopped plying following stoning incidents. The Muhimmat Community Hall was also attacked.

Earlier on Saturday, Hundreds of people under the aegis of the Kumble Muslim United Forum  took out a protest march and staged a demonstration in front of the Kumble Police Station demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

The agitators alleged that some  youth from Kumble Mayippady and Naikapu had been posting derogatory comments  since  the past two days and that the police were reluctant to file a complaint despite several Muslim leaders approaching them on the issue.
