A team of opthalmologists and eye care specialists has also been formed in this direction. The team will look into ways and means to improve eye care facilities in hospitals.

The policy will lay more emphasis on detecting eye defects, distribution of spectacles free of cost, conducting cataract surgeries etc.

Children upto tenth standard having eye defects as well as BPL card holders above 40 years will get free spectacles. Cataract treatment will be provided free in government hospitals and some select private hospitals, he added.
