Mangaluru, Nov 30, 2016: Former minister Krishna Palemar has warned of series of protests if the district administration failed to put a check on the rampant sand mafia in the district.
Speaking to reporters here on November 30, Wednesday, he said the tentacles of sand mafia was spreading alarmingly and that sand was being transported to Kerala, Bengaluru and other places by totally disregarding rules. All that the authorities do is register an FIR if at all any case is brought to their notice, Palemar said.
He also alleged that neither the District Minister nor the DC respond when a complaint is made. He further stated that those who lodged complaint themselves would get a threat. He warned of protests if steps were not taken to curb sand mafia within a month.
Palemar further complained that developmental works in Mangaluru have been affected as MUDA is left without a Chairman.
