On May 2, Friday, former deputy CM and senior BJP leader K.S.Eshwarappa who was in the city, demanded that Jain should immediately quit as minister. He also stated that this was the first such instance wherein a minister has threatened to  assault a reporter.

Eshwarappa further demanded an apology from the minister for his alleged threatening call to the journalist. If at all Jain fails to heed to the demand to step down, then he should be dismissed from the cabinet by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Eshwarappa said.

He described the incident as an insult to the media as well as to democracy. At the same time he clarified that the BJP will not politicise the issue. Eshwarappa said the party would decide on its future course of action  after a meeting on May 7 under the leadership of the party’s state chief Prahlad Joshi.

Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC, former ministers Nagaraj Shetty, Kota Srinivas Poojari and  District BJP President Pratap Simha Nayak were present at the press meet.
