Eight monkeys found dead in Udupi district

Udupi, Jan 22, 2019: Eight monkeys were found dead in different parts of Udupi district on Monday.

monkey2According to the Health and Family Welfare Department, autopsy was conducted on one monkey which died on January 19. It tested positive for Kyasanur Forest Disease virus.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Rohini said that there were no suspected or positive cases among human beings in the district.

Meanwhile, Kasturba Hospital in Manipal said here on Monday that a total of 107 patients with suspected symptoms of Kyasanur Forest Disease from in and around Sagar in Shivamogga district have been admitted to the hospital here.

Of these 107 cases, there were two repeat admissions because of fever. Of the 107 cases, 42 cases tested positive, while 60 were negative.


The reports of seven persons were still awaited. Already, 80 patients had got discharged after treatment from the hospital here. One woman died of Kyasanur Forest Disease on January 18, the hospital said.
