Dutch medicos visit Yenepoya University and interact

Mangalore, July 12, 2014:  Yenepoya University’s  Department of Community Medicine, organized an Interactive Session between visiting students from Maastricht University, Netherlands and the UG Students currently posted in Community Medicine Mangalore. The session was organized under the banner of Yenepoya University Alumini Association.

The two students from Maastricht,   Ms Evelien Beelen and Ms Kelly Dreuning, shared the systems,  medical education follows in the Netherlands. They highlighted the ’Seven Jump theory’ which has evolved as a Maastricht Model.


Students at Yenepoya University clarified several matters with the Dutch students regarding euthanasia, research and public health measures and more. The dutch students highlighted how cancer was an emerging discipline which is endangering lives in Holland and also how Senior citizen homes and hospices are on the increase never encountered before.


Dr Kirthinath Ballal, Asst Professor, Manipal University accompanied the visiting students and also spoke on current  Public health issues.

Dr Shailesh Shenoy, President, Yenepoya Alumini Association and Dr Hasan Sarfaraz, Secretary Yenepoya University Alumini Association were among those present.


Dr Edmond Fernandes, PG, Dept of Community Medicine, Yenepoya University Co-ordinated the events for the day. Dr Sandhya Rani, PG, Community medicine, Yenepoya University organised the program.  The Dutch students later met the Registrar and the Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya University to deliberate and share their India experience and also to explore potential future options and co-operation.
