Duo get lifer in auto driver Yatish murder case of 2014

Mangaluru, May 10, 2017 : The First District and Sessions Court has sentenced two persons to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of an autorickshaw driver named Yatish at Thokkottu on August 15, 2014.

Yatish 1 Those convicted are Udaya alias Udayaraj alias Babu (38) and Lancy D’Souza alias Lancy alias Mamu (35) of Permannur.

A clash had ensued between Yatish and his friends and Lancy and his group after the latter ridiculed a Karaoke song rendered by Yatish’s friend at a bar at Thokkottu on August 15, 2014. The clash soon culminated in the rival gang stabbing Yatish with a knife. The happenings were captured in the CCTV camera of the bar.

The court while convicting the two, had acquitted the third accused Vinay Kumar of the charges.

Apart from life term, a penalty of Rs 20,000 has also been imposed on the duo who have been convicted. They will have to undergo imprisonment for six more months if they fail to pay the penalty.

A total of 28 witnesses were heard in this case.
