Drop Yettinahole project or face severe protests, Vijaykumar Shetty warns govt

Mangalore, March 3, 2014: Several activists of the Netravati Nadi Ulisi Horata Samithi led by its Convenor and former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty staged protests at various parts of the city including Hampankatta Signal Circle, Jyothi Circle, PVS and near KSRTC bus stand  on March 3, Monday to prevail upon the government to drop the Netravathi River Diversion Project which is being implemented in the name of Yettinahole Project.

 

Addressing the protestors, Vijaykumar Shetty said people of the district have an emotional attachment with river Netravathi and declared that the district will not allow the diversion of Netravathi. He also sought the co-operation of the people for the protests which teh Samithi plans to organise in the future.

He said today’s bundh was successful and warned that severe agitation would be organised in the future if the government fails to concede to the demand.

Hundreds of activists including Dennis D’Silva, TK Sudhir, MG Hegde, PV Mohan as well as student leaders were present.
