Mumbai, June 07, 2019: Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti presented Sir George Fernandes Memorial Award to cardiologist and medical educator B M Hegde in recognition of his contribution to the fields of medicine and healthcare in the last 50 years.
Prof Hegde was felicitated at a programme organised at Buntara Bhavana Annex Hall, Kurla East, Mumbai on June 3 to mark the 89th birth anniversary of former Union minister George Fernandes, who hailed from coastal Karnataka.
Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti is a non-government organisation (NGO) founded under the leadership of Thonse Jayakrishna A Shetty in the year 2000 for the development and pollution-free coastal Karnataka districts- Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod.
Samiti president Thonse Jayakrishna A Shetty presided over the function.
Deepak Kesarkar, minister of state for finance, home and planning, Government of Maharashtra was the chief guest and Opposition Leader in Karnataka Legislative Council Kota Srinivas Poojary was the guest of honour.
The dignitaries hailed the contribution of Prof Hegde to the medical field.
They also stressed on the need to name the Mangalore International Airport or Mangalore Railway Station after George Fernandes.
Samiti’s general secretary Hiriyadka Mohandas invited the guests to the dias while CA I R Shetty welcomed the guests. N D Kotian briefed about the activities of the Samiti.
