Mangaluru, April 28, 2015: The Doping Test Centre set up at the Mangala Stadium in the backdrop of the upcoming National level 19th Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championship, was inaugurated on April 28, Tuesday by DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai.

In his address, Rai said the stadium has now been equipped with all infrastructural facilities for the smooth conduct of the event. Rai informed that a sum of Rs 50 lakh out of the Rs one crore  announced by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the event has already been released. The Minister also stated that MCC has offered Rs 5 lakh while the Department of Ecology will  contribute Rs 10 lakhs to the Sports Department.

Minister for Youth Services and Sports Abhayachandra Jain said organising the event in Mangaluru is a dream come true. All efforts are made to offer the best amenities and facilities, he said adding a borewell has also been dug in order to ensure enough water supply. He informed that 34 athletes from the state will participate in the four-day event beginning on April 30. A special two-hour long cultural programme would be organised on the inaugural day, he said.

Continuing, Jain said the event gains significance in the backdrop of the 21st Asian Athletics Championship 2015 to be held in June in China and also the upcoming Rio Olympics.

Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim said  arrangements for the event are nearing completion. Even public can watch the event as there is no entry fee, he said and added that the administration was expecting a crowd of at least 25000.

Manjunath Bhandary, President of DK District Athletics Association said accommodation arrangements have been made for  all athletes arriving for the event.

HS Venkatesh, Director of  Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Bengaluru also spoke. SCDCC Bank Chairman MN Rajendra Kumar donated Rs 5 lakh towards the event  to Sports Minister Abhayachandra Jain.

Ivan D’Souza, MLC and others were present at the function.
