Mangalore, June 14,2013: Condolence meeting was held to mourn the sad demise of Dr. Kailkere Mohandas Bhandary, Past President of IMA Mangaluru branch who passed away on 12th June 2013. The meeting took place on Thursday, 13th June at 8:30 p.m. at Dr. A. V. Rao Conference Hall, IMA House, Attavar, Mangalore.

After the rendering of IMA prayer by Treasurer Dr. Animesh Jain, various office bearers, senior doctors and close associates paid rich tributes to Dr. Bhandary, recalling his invaluable contribution to IMA, to medical profession and to society at large.

During his term as IMA president in 2010, Dr. Bhandary had hosted ‘IMA MEDICON’ state level medical conference in the city. He was a member of Central Working Committee (CWC) of IMA, vice president of Karnataka state IMA and a member of Karnataka Medical Council (KMC) representing Non Teachers Constituency.

Veteran doctors Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor, Nitte University; Dr. A. V. Shetty, Senior Cardiologist and Dr. C.P. Habeeb Rahman, Chairman, Unity Hospital were present.

“Dr Mohandas Bhandary loved Mangalore. It was he who took IMA Mangalore’s fame to the state and national level,” said IMA President Dr. M. Manjunath Shenoy. “He was a friend, philosopher, a born leader, indomitable and just. He will always be remembered.”

Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty said he knew Dr. Bhandary since childhood as they both hailed from Kundapur.  “He was a tenacious fighter. We have lost him at a time when everyone needed him the most and the vacuum is difficult to fill,” he said.

Dr. A.V. Shetty said, “I have known Dr. Bhandary from a very young age. He brought about great change in IMA. He was focused and we were lucky to have him as our President as he exceeded us all in contributing to the organization.”

Dr. C.P. Habeeb Rahman said, “Dr Mohandas Bhandary was a unique personality. His dynamism, spirit, coordination, motivation, determination and work were very inspiring.”

Dr. Annayya Kulal said Dr Bhandary’s concept for ‘Arivu Arogya Keri Vaasthavya’ Programme of IMA was an award winning effort.

Dr. Jerome Pinto said Dr Bhandary strived for the cause of family doctors by instilling professional pride and confidence. “His leadership was outstanding and he could take everyone along,” he said.

Dr. G.K. Bhat Sankabithilu said Dr. Bhandary’s best quality was his ability to instill confidence and establish rapport. “As a doctor, his interaction itself had a very soothing impact on patients,” he said.

Two minutes silence was observed and floral tributes were offered to Dr. Bhandary’s portrait.
