Doctor’s negligence costs young woman’s life

Mangalore, Dec.1: A 25 year old woman named Lavina Menezes who underwent a surgery at Somayaji Hospital in  BC Road, on November 16 and was subsequently shifted to KMC Hospital, Attavar in Mangalore,  died on December 1.  Naveen, husband of the deceased has filed a case of negligence and murder against the gynaecologist Dr. Maya Prabhu and the Somayaji Hospital.

According to Naveen, Lavina had been admitted for delivery in Somayaji Hospital on November 16 as per the advice of her gynaecologist, Dr Maya Prabhu. It is said that though Lavina was admitted at 8.30 am and the nursing staff reported the case to Dr Maya, she turned up only at 11.30 that too after Naveen requested the doctor to attend to his wife who was having severe pain. It is said, by the time the doctor arrived, the patient was quite serious.

As per the doctor’s advice the patient was immediately operated upon following which she began to bleed extensively. The patient’s condition worsened at around 2.30 pm inspite of giving enough blood. As the condition of the patient turned hopeless, Dr. Maya asked the patient’s family to shift her to a better hospital.

She was shifted to KMC, Attavar, Mangalore the same evening. According to Naveen, his wife died due to the toal negligence of Dr Maya. The doctor did not give the case report to KMC had further worsened matters.
