In his address, Mr. Kharbekar said that a police team under the leadership of DySP Karan Singh of CRP in 1959 was ambushed by Chinese troops. Although they were armed only with rifles, they fought bravely and 10 policemen lost their lives. Nine were captured by the Chinese troops.

Further, he said that, ever since 1959, a number of policemen lost their lives, adding that it is the duty of every policeman to sacrifice their lives for the nation. He also spoke on the need to protect policemen who are on duty at the border and in terrorist-infested zones.

District Session Judge Ashok Nijalingannavar said in his speech that people can live without fear in society only because of the police force, adding that police officers play an important role in daily life. The welfare of martyrs’ families is also of great importance, he added.

Further, he spoke of the need to educate the masses about the service of policemen. He suggested the inclusion of lessons on policemen in schools.

The police flag was lowered and a 2-minute silent prayer was said in honor of the departed policemen.
