Mangalore, Jan 4, 2014: State minister for forest, environment and ecology and DK district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai inaugurated the National Book Fair at Nehru  Maidan on Jan 4, Saturday.

The exhibtion was organized by National Book Trust, India under the Ministry of Human Resource Development of Government of India, in association with Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation.


Addressing the gathering, he said that Mangalore is the city of intellectuals. The book fair will help the people to inculcate the habit of reading the books and divert their habit from reading online copies.


The book fair will help people to use the opportunity provided by the NBT, he said.


MLA  J.R Lobo, presided over the event and said that the book exhibition will help book lovers to get back to their reading habits and enhances knowledge and values. 


Basti Vaman Shenoy, president of the Foundation’s Executive Committee and founder of World Konkani Centre said that the fair consists of 60 stalls from across the country, which would help students, academicians, and teachers.


NBT regional manager Amit Karki and NBT editor (Kannada) H Nagarajappa, were present on the dais.
