District admin, to take up widening of two roads in Udupi

Udupi, July 15,2015 :   District administration plans  to widen two important roads in Udupi city.  The Bannanje Circle Road to Brahmagiri Circle Road and the District Treasury to Mission Hospital Circle Road.

The Bannanje Circle Road to Brahmagiri Circle Road has important offices such as the District Police Office, including the office of the Superintendent of Police, Taluk Office, the office of the Udupi Urban Development Authority, the Sub Registrar’s Office and also the Inspection Bungalow.

The mini Vidhan Soudha will also be constructed on the present Taluk Office premises at a cost of Rs. 10 crore and it would include more government offices, making the Bannanje Circle-Brahmagiri Circle Road even more important.

The District Treasury Office to Mission Hospital Circle Road is narrow. The offices of the Lokayukta Police, Traffic Police, the Udupi Circle Inspector and the Udupi Town Police Station are located on this road.

Udupi DC  Dr R. Vishal told media,  both these important roads were single lane roads. The volume of traffic is  high on both the roads and  it is essential to widen both roads.   The district administration has already directed the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) to get estimates for the widening of both these roads.

DC Dr Vishal said that he instructed the CMC Commissioner to get  estimates of these two roads and also any other road which the CMC considers essential for widening. Seems the preparation of estimates for these two roads might take a couple of months. 

The authorities will also see if they could widen both these roads with storm water drains on either side without land acquisition.  Land acquisition would push up the costs of widening substantially.  

The district administration will take up the next step only after it gets the estimates and other details of widening from the CMC. Once the administration gets detailed estimates, it intends to approach the State government and seek special grants for widening these roads.
