District BJP takes out protest rally demanding Govt to withdraw ban on arecanut

Mangalore, Jan 2, 2013: The members of District Bharatiya Janatha Party staged a protest in front of the DC office on Jan 2, Thursday demanding to withdraw the ban on Arecanut products.


Addressing the protestors, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that since Agriculture is the main occupation of most of the people in the state, BJP government had implemented various projects for the development of the farmers, but the present government has fully set to destroy the farmers by banning Arecanut products.

He also said that the BJP government had compensated the arecanut growers, when they have faced acute loss due to yellow leaf disease, but Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken all measures to neglect farmers and lead them to commit suicide.


MP also said that Central government and the state government do not have any concern for the farmers. Hence the state government must immediately form a panel of advocates to fight for the farmers. The government must take action to withdraw the ban on arecanut immediately and compensate them. If the government does not fulfill the demands of the farmers, then BJP will hold violent protest, he added.


There are 25 lakh people who are depending on arecanut farming. As a  Chief  Minister, Siddaramaiah’s duty is to safeguard the farmers and to help them in their needs. Yes nicotine and Tobacco is dangerous, government should ban such substances. 


District President of BJP Pratap Simha Nayak welcomed the gathering. 


The members took out a rally Ambedkar circle to DC office prior to the protest meet.


MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, ZP President Koragappa Naik, MLC Monappa Bhandary, Gangadhar Gowda, Kumble Sundar Rao, Nemiraj Rai, Sunil Kumar, Sulochana Bhat, MLA Sullia Angara, Krishna J Palemar, Nagaraj Shetty, Rukmaiah Poojary, Yogish Bhat, Jayaram Bhat,  T Balakrishna, Mallika Prasad and other BJP leaders were also present.
