Udupi: August 6, 2015: Deputy Commissioner R Vishal on Thursday directed the officials of tourism department to upload the documentary on district tourism development on You Tube and thereby give wide publicity to various places of tourism importance in the district. The department has already printed brochures, and prepared documentaries on the district’s tourism places, and people should get this information through all available means including internet, Vishal noted.

Chairing a district tourism committee meet here on Thursday, Vishal said the administration will hold international tourism day on Kaup, Malpe and Maravanthe beach. He directed the committee to erect information boards, and hoardings to promote the event as well as the respective places where the event will be held. Vishal also approved the purchase of a jet ski to meet exigencies off the Malpe coast. The Jet Ski will be procured from government funds, he said.

The committee also decided to purchase a machine that will help clean the beaches. Noting that a similar experiment has been tried out successfully in Chennai, Vishal said the department will make use of funds set aside by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the express purpose of tourism development in the state budget. Clean beaches sell themselves, he said, adding that mechanized cleaning will only add to the unique selling proposition of beaches as tourist spots.

The DC directed the Udupi City Municipal Commissioner and tahshildar to take steps to open the heritage village for public viewing. Directing the department of minor irrigation to develop the Anekere in Karkala taluk, Vishal said a sum of Rs 9 lakh has been set aside for developing the Jarandhaya Lake near Belapu. DC also elicited opinion from various stakeholders who have been made partners in development of tourism in the district by way of outsourcing.
