The City Police said so in a clarification issued on January 5, Sunday  following several allegations heard  in connection with the case and fingers pointed out at the police for not carrying out proper investigation.  It may be recalled here that two medical students of a private college at Derlakatte were kidnapped during the third week of December by a  gang of assailants which later reportedly forced the two victims to indulge in sex, videographed the event and then blackmailed the two for money.

The eight member gang was arrested very soon based on the complaint by the victim girl who was first released after the two promised to get cash to the kidnappers.

The clarification said a case was registered  (Crime No. 192/2013) in Konaje police station on December 19 on the basis of a written complaint by the victim. It further said “ At the time of receiving the complaint the police officer concerned suspected the involvement of section 376 IPC (pertaining to rape) and questioned the complainant who in turn denied the same.”

The clarification issued by the Police said the complainant did not co-operate with the investigation officer for medical examination and requested the investigation officer not to give publicity to the case.

The communiqué also said all the accused were arrested within 48 hours and are in judicial custody and that there has been good progress  in the investigation.

It further said the statement of the victim has been recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code and was  produced before the investigation officer on January 2 and that the investigating officer has  filed a memo to the court on January 3 seeking to add Section 376 and 376D IPC to the case.
