Mangalore, Jan 15, 2014: It has been reliably gathered that several senior Congress corporators are planning to quit enmasse in protest against the deliberate delay in the election of Mayor even a year after the civic body polls.
Sources say majority of the Corporators attended a closed door meeting held at the office of the Standing Committee of the MCC and have decided to quit if the government failed to divert attention to this issue. The meet was reportedly held under the leadership of senior corporators Shashidhar Hegde and Deepak Poojari.
Here it is worth mentioning that the election of Mayor of Mangalore was first postponed in the backdrop of the assembly elections. Later a corporator had moved the Court challenging the reservation of the post for women. The court which had heard the petition had stayed the election.
Presently, in the absence of the mayor, various works in the city are pending and Corporators too are tired of waiting. It has also been gathered that the Congress leader are planning to move HC seeking to reconsider its ruling. They are also likely to take a delegation to the Chief Minister.

Sri Shashidhar Hegde is the former Mayor of MCC who inititaed road concretising in the city.He is an experienced person and knows the nerves of Mangaloreans.Even today his ward is well looked after for basic aminities. He attends the work with all sinciarity.I have seen he personally supervising the developmental work in his ward.Even his wife also comes to ward to superwise the work and assists her husband.I strongly feel that he is a MP material and Congress party should take a decision of giving ticket in Mangalore this time. |
