Defamation suit filed against Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde.

Bangalore, Mar 19 : Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde on Friday claimed a defamation case has been filed against him by an IPS officer today, apparently in connection with details given to media of a raid conducted by him against the officer last year.

"It has come to my knowledge that a defamation case has been filed against me by Superintendent of Police, Intelligence, Hemanth Nimabalkar in the civil court", Lokayukta Santosh Hegde said.

"I am yet to see the petition. The case apparently is in connection with the press conference following a raid on Nimbalkar when he was SP Belgaum in Mar 2009 in which I disclosed particulars of the raid to the press that he had amassed wealth beyond his known sources of income", he said

Asked for his reaction to the development, Hegde said "considering the position that I hold, a litigation like this it is not surprising. This is not the first time I am being dragged to court".

A similar suit was filed against him by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike for criticising it for sloppy sewage management in the wake of the accidental death of a child, who drowned in a drain last year.
