Mangalore, March 3, 2014: The decks are now cleared for senior leader B Janardhan Poojari who is a key contender for a Congress ticket from Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency. In what can be termed as a major setback to Union Minister Veerappa Moily’s son Harsha Moily who was earlier in the race with Poojari for a ticket, the selection committee of AICC on March 2, Sunday rejected his nomination to contest the Party Primaries.
According to Praniel Nair, observer for Internal Elections, Harsha’s nomination was rejected as he has not met the eligibility criteria of a candidate as per the guidelines of the AICC.
The party rules say nomination for the primary can be filed by ’A person of standing in public service/social cause and who is not a member of any other political party’. Though Harsha Moily had filed his nomination based on this criteria, the same was rejected.
With the rejection of Harsha’s nomination only Poojari and Kanachur Monu, state vice-president of Congress Minority Cell will be in the fray and Poojari is in all likelihood win the Primaries.
