Mangalore, May 28, 2014: The District unit of the DYFI took out a protest rally from Ambedkar Circle to the DC office in the city on May 27, Tuesday to protest against the arrest of three innocent Muslim youth in the case of murder of Rajesh Poojary, an autorickshaw driver and Bhajrangdal activist at Bantwal a couple of months ago. Family members of the arrested youth too took part in the protest.
The agitators urged the authorities to release the ‘innocent’ youth and also sought a fresh probe into the case.
Muneer Katipalla, District President of the DYFI accused the cops of fixing innocents in the case. He said the three arrested youth namely Irshad, Hussain and Imran were the bread winners of their families and alleged the mounting pressure from the saffron organisations had made the cops arrest innocent in the case.
He claimed that those arrested havd no link with any organisation.
He also said the District Minister Ramanatha Rai’s assurance to look into the case, went in vain. The DYFI has also warned of severe protests if the youth were not released.
Dayananda Shetty, District Secretary of DYFI, mothers of the three arrested namely Shaheen, Khatoon and Nebisa and others participated in the protest.
