Mangalore, Nov 14, 2011: The DK District Congress Committee (DKDC) celebrated the birthday of Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru in the office of the committee on Nov 14, Monday.
Ramanath Rai, the president of DKDC, honored Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru by garlanding his portrait. In his address, Mr. Rai said that Nehru did not hesitate even to go to jail for his country. He participated actively in the freedom struggle and became the country’s first prime minister. Known for his empathy toward the poor, Nehru worked for the technological development of the country, while simultaneously stressing on philosophical values. He also played an important role in building a strong relationship with Russia and USA. Flaying certain anti social elements of attempting to defame freedom fighters, he said that Congress activists should follow in the footsteps of Nehru and work for the development of society.
Shashidhar Hegde, the former mayor; K. S. M. Masood, the senior Congress leader; and Ivan D’Souza, the KPCC secretary; along with Farooq Ullal, Moideen Bawa, Nazir Bajal, Nagendra, Shashidhar, and others were also present.
