Mangalore, Feb 26, 2014 : Various organisations which have been fighting to pressurise the government to drop the controversial Netravathi River Diversion or Yettinahole Project have now given a call for a bundh in Dakshina Kannada district on March 3, the day on which the government is scheduled tolay the foundation for the project at Chikkaballapura.
Speaking to media men in the city on February 26, Wednesday, Vijaykumar Shetty, President of the Jeevanadi Netravathi Rakshana Samithi said the District would observe March 3 as Black Day.
Expressing his regret over the fact that the several protests had failed to yield any result so far, Shetty said selfish politicians were moving heaven and earth to implement the project which will spell doom on River Netravathi as well as the coastal districts.
He was also critical of the local political leaders who have failed to convince the government of the widespread opposition to the project in the district.
MG Hegde also spoke on the occasion and said the fight will continue till the government yields to the demand.
Activists Dinesh Holla, Shashiraj Shetty Kolambe, PV Mohan and others were present.
