MLA U T Khader, Ivan D’souza, Mithun Rai and many other congress members  have also participated in the protest. They have demanded the passport issuing authority to give a proper answer for inaccurate service by the newly opened Passport Seva Kendra, which was inaugurated recently by S M Krishna, Union External Affairs Minister, from Bangalore. Responding to demand put forth by the congress party men, officials said that they were not the concerned authority and asked protesters to contact Ravindra of Regional Passport Office. But, when the protesters tried to contact Ravindra, there was no response from his side.

Althaf Sharief, a resident of K C Road, rued that he has found many mistakes in pass port, which he has received under Tatkal facility. He said that there was mistake in the last digits of my Date of Birth and date of expiry of passport. He further added that, ‘I had produced proper details. But pass port officials have asked me to approach Regional Passport office located at Bangalore to  rectify the error. Now I am suffering from an ailment and doctor has suggested me not to travel anywhere for some time’

He said ‘he would have by now reported for duty in Saudi Arabia if the Passport Service Centre had handled his passport application properly. But the centre literally played with his future by its irresponsible behavior’.  When he rushed to the centre to complain, he was shocked at the rude behavior of the officials, who responded to his appeals in a high-handed fashion. They completely ignored his pleas to correct the errors because he had to fly immediately to report for duty. Ultimately, Arif’s visa was cancelled and he lost his job. A bitterly disappointed Arif blames the poor service at the Passport Service Centre for his current predicament.

Speaking after the protest, R R Chitnis and S B Gajanji, Superintendent RPO, said that there are chances of more mistakes as the Mangalore Passport Sevakendra is being a pilot project. We will try to solve all the problems, they assured.
