Nalin Kumar KateelMangaluru, Nov 2, 2014: Presenting his report card as MP in the 100 days of Narendra Modi government, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said Four state highways in Dakshina Kannada in all likelihood will be upgraded to National Highways if the Union ministry for road transport and highways accepts the proposal by Dakshina Kannada.  This includes the 48.10-km stretch of state highway that connects two national highways passing through B C Road and Mulki respectively via Polali, Kateel, and Kinnigoli.

The other roads include the 170-km long state highways that connect Udupi to Sullia via Karkala, Dharmasthala and Kukke Subrahmanya. The 29-km Mani-Ullal road via Melkaru, Mudipu and Thokkottu, and the 102.95-kms Mulki-Periyashanti state highway via Moodbidri, Belthangady and Dharmasthala too are penciled in for upgradation, he said.

Also, proposals have been sent to the ministry for developing the Mangalore-Moodbidri-Karkala National Highway at a cost of Rs 280 crore, and converting NH from B C Road to Addahole in to a four-lane facility. Proposals to repair NHs passing through the district at a cost of Rs 39 crore have been submitted to Nitin Gadkari, union minister. These include NHs connecting Bangalore-Mangalore, and Mangalore-Solapur respectively, he noted.

Focusing on his other roles as a MP, Nalin said he has visited 137 villages in the last 100 days after becoming MP for second term, asked 86 questions in the Lok Sabha and participated in eight discussions. Proposals worth Rs 2.50 crore for 83 different works have been submitted to the nodal officer for MP Local Area Development Fund for 2014-15 for approval, he said, adding all these proposals are being closely followed up by his support staff.

DK has received grants worth Rs 13.70 crore out of Rs 50 crore sanctioned by Union tourism ministry for coastal tourism circuit, including Rs 3 crore each for Someshwar, and Talapady beaches. District has also received grants worth Rs 10.67 crore for schemes of department of health and family welfare, Rs 1.17 crore under National Horticultural Mission and Rs 107.85 crore under various central schemes that zilla panchayat executes. He propsed to work seriously on the aims of govt.
