Mangalore May 18, 2014:  Addressing a press gathering DC of Dakshina Kannada, A B Ibrahim  detailed that the recent elections here,  saw several first time innovations.

Some of them were:  Polling percentage displayed at the entrance of each booth, updated on the hour. * Model booths with high caliber facilities and looks for a pleasant and effiicient atmosphere.  The staff and officials of district administration worked hard to record an unprecedented polling percentage of 77.19% in DK. He expressed appreciation for all concerned.* About 15,000  polling staff were mobilised and in order to maximise efficiency and comfort they were normally deputed within their own taluks. * The deploying and debriefing of the EVM -Electronic Voting Machines was kept simple with training and good technical support and minimal difficulty was observed.

FLAWLESS VOTERS LIST: The DC  said it is note worthy that the Voters list compiled and finalised just before polling was near flawless and  a high number of  first time voters were included in time to facilitate a good voting with  high numbers. DC Stresses that the process of enrollment of an eligible person in the voters’ list was a continuous consistent process and not limited to the time before elections only.


The DC also  placed on record that ’live telecasts’  of entire counting process brought transparency of a high degree and for public satisfaction of viewing the result declaration. He also said that he would take up this with the Election Commission for future implementation for improved public view. This was hailed by officials in other areas it is learnt.

Further,  a ’Feed-back’ with suitable forms/questionnaires to the presiding officers at each polling booth,  focusing on  various arrangements and all possible facets of election  for making suggestions on the improvement of the quality of systems,  and other amenities of polling staff. All the feed back and suggestions will be suitably forwarded to the Chief Electoral Officer / EC for study and implementation as necessary in future elections. In deed the innovation and efficient working will get a boost due to the good efforts of Dakshina Kannda District Administration.
