Mangaluru, Nov 16,2016: Considering bird flu reported in Ballari and in Kerala,DK DC Dr K G Jagadeesha has directed the officials to step up preventive measures. He exhorted the stakeholders in the poultry industry to be vigilant.
Dr T Thippeswamy, Department of Animal Husbandry deputy director, said that poultry centres and chicken stalls should maintain cleanliness and unnecessary movement of people at poultry centres should be checked. The vehicles transporting fowl birds to the poultry and chicken stalls should be disinfected. The vehicles that transport fowls and other products from Kerala should be disinfected at the border of Karnataka itself.
Priority for hygiene : He urged poultry farm owners to dispose the waste in a scientific manner, to check the spread of disease. The ULBs and gram panchayats should also maintain cleanliness. No case of bird flu was reported in Dakshina Kannada. The people need not panic in the district. As a precautionary measure, people should consume eggs and meat after boiling and cooking them properly. If the chickens die unnaturally, then it should be reported to veterinary doctors immediately.
