Mangaluru, Dec 04, 2019: DK DC Sindhu B Rupesh inaugurated Mysore Silk saree-sale-cum-exhibition of Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) at Hindi Prachar Samithi building in Lalbagh on dec 3, Tuesday.
Along with Mysore Silk sarees, different sarees from Georgette to Crepe design to printed sarees are also on display at the exhibition to be held from 10 am to 8 pm till December 8. The sarees are made of finest natural silk yard obtained from cocoons reared, the organizers said. Also, wedding collections have also been introduced at the exhibition. The price of the saris ranges from Rs 6,000 to Rs 1.30 lakh.
KSIC Marketing Division GM S Bhanuprakash said that KSIC will start another unit in Mysuru shortly where 30,000 saris will be manufactured annually. The present unit of KSIC manufactures 1 lakh saris annually. Over 1,500 Mysuru Silk sarees are sold on special occasions like Varamahalakshmi festival, Mother’s Day and Women’s Day. On average, 250 sarees are sold in a day in the state. As many as 200 Mysuru Silk sarees were sold during exhibition-cum-sale in Mangaluru last year, he said.
The Jari used in Mysore Silk has a gold content of 0.65 % and silver content of 65%.
