DK DC exhorts discipline during SSLC, PU exams due soon

Mangaluru, Mar 03, 2017: Chairing a review meeting of preparations for SSLC and PU at his office in the city on March 2, Thursday, DK DC Dr K G Jagadeesha called upon the heads of institutions / schools to cooperate and maintain good discipline for which the district is known always. A total of 33,518 students will write the SSLC exam in Dakshina Kannada this year. Similarly, a total of 38,607 students will sit for the second PU exams in the district.

K G Jagadeesha..Stressing on the need to make proper arrangements such as adequate light, fan, drinking water and toilets in exam centres, he said that in case of any lapse found in this regard, the exam centre head will be held responsible. Appealing to teachers to be polite and friendly with students who come to write exams, the DK DC said that students are leable to be tense and teachers’ rudeness or discrimination may only add to their tension.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumara said that the question papers for the exam centres in the entire district will be sent from the district treasury on the day of exams itself. Stating that all arrangements have been made in this regard, he said that a maximum of 30 students will be allowed to write exams in a single room. The exam centre supervisors will be selected through lots and no teacher teaching the same subject will be appointed for the particular exam duty.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) Walter D’Mellow said that a total of 33,518 students from 500 schools will write SSLC exams in 91 exam centres between March 30 and April 13. Of the total students, 17,267 are boys and 16,251 are girls. Also, of the total students, 32,222 are school-going students and 1,296 students are taking private exams.

Arrangements have been made to supply question papers on time and district and taluk-level officials will be deputed for exam duty. He too said that no student will be allowed to enter the exam hall 30 minutes after the commencement of the exam.

PU exams : PU Deputy Director Thimmaiah said that a total of 38,607 students from 198 colleges are due to appear for PU exams in 52 exam centres between March 9 and March 27. Of the total students, 19,128 are boys and 19,479 are girls. While 5,796 students are taking Arts exams, 17,396 students are writing Commerce exams and 15,415 students are taking Science exams.  While 34,428 students are taking exams for the first time, there are 1,391 repeaters and 2,788 students will appear as private students. He also said that no student will be allowed to enter the exam centre 30 minutes after the commencement of the exam.

Dr M R Ravi, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer, and N R Umesh, deputy secretary, were present.
