The DGP’s visit followed the recent raid by a police team led by City Police Commissioner Chandra Shekhar wherein ganja, mobile phones and other items were seized.

Stating that the recovery of cell phones  and drugs from the prison which is equipped with scanners revealed that there has been a security lapse, the DGP said steps would be taken to ensure that banned  items do not make an entry into the jail premises.

When his attention was drawn towards the double murders in the prison in November last year, Satyanarayana said that the inquiry was in progress.

After inspecting the prison, he also felt  that it required more CCTV  cameras. He also took serious cognizance of the fact that the jail was over crowded and lacked adequate staff and assured necessary measures to solve the problem.

Stressing the need to boost the morale of the jail personnel, the DGP said talks by experienced resource persons will be organised   in this direction.

To a question on the escape of  two under trials from the Hiriadka prison in Udupi, he said  there are no plans to shift the prison.

Chandra Shekhar, City Police Commissioner,  Tilakchandra, ACP and other police officials were present during the visit of DGP.

The DGP even visited Mudipu and inspected the 63 acre land  set aside for construction of a  new jail.
