Mangalore, Feb 12, 2014 : Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim who is also the District Election Officer has directed all officials to gear up for the upcoming Parliamentary elections to ensure free and fair polls.
He was addressing a meeting held at the DC office meeting hall on February 11, Tuesday to discuss the arrangements to be made for the elections.
The DC asked the officials to ensure that the Voters’ list is free from loopholes. He also directed them to consider applications for inclusion of names or any objection on a priority basis.
He also stressed the need for better co-ordination between various departments including Police department and election officials to ensure fool-proof security measures He further directed for measures to appoint sector officers, inspection squads, vigilance squads and other teams at the earliest. There is also a need to set up a control room that operates round the clock and also to step up vigil in district and inter-state border areas.
Deputy Commissioner Ibrahim also said officials from the Income Tax Department and banks will be appointed to keep an eye on the expenditures of the poll candidates.
K Dayananda, Additional DC, Dr Prashanth, Assistant Commissioner of Mangalore, Krishnamurthi, Assistant Commissioner of Puttur, Jagadish, DCP, Shivakumar, ASP, tahsildars and election officers attended the meeting.
