Mangalore, June 11, 2013 : Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner N Prakash has set an example for others to follow by removing the red beacon atop his official car on June 10, Monday.
The DC’s move is in the wake of the Karnataka government order restricting use of red beacon lights by any other officials other than the governor, Chief Minister, Ministers, High Court judges, Assembly speaker and Legislative Council Chairperson.
The Supreme Court too had earlier given a directive in this regard to the state governments.
Accordingly, the Transport Department, on June 10, Monday had started removing the red beacon lights atop vehicles of state and central government officials in DK and the beacon light atop the official car of the DC was the first to be removed.
Regional Transport Officer C Mallikarjuna has also informed that all police officials and other officials would be informed about the government ruling.
