Mangaluru, Dec 16, 2014: District and Sessions Judge M.G.Uma along with Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim visited the District Prison on December 16, Tuesday and heard the grievances of the prisoners.

The two who visited all the cells in the prison on noticing higher number of prisoners in a few cells and less prisoners in some other cells, directed the jail officials to see to it that equal number of prisoners are lodged in all cells.

Some under trials brought to the notice of the District Judge and the DC that they were facing health problems due to the consumption of water supplied in the prison. Responding to the grievance, the DC immediately instructed the officials to send the water sample for lab test and submit a report to him. He also directed that the quality of water supplied to the prisoners be checked once in a month henceforth.

The DC who also noticed that water pipelines were ruptured resulting in leakage at places in the prison, summoned the Engineer of the Water Supply Division of the MCC  and instructed him to get the ruptured pipelines repaired.

The DC and the District Judge also inspected the lavatory  used by the prisoners and noticed the discolouration of water used in the  lavatory. They even inspected the kitchen and food items and  tasted the jail food to check its quality.

The prison officials were asked to arrange for vocational training for interested under trials in order to keep them engaged.

The DC and the District Judge visited the Women prisoners’ cell too. The DC who later spoke said he was not pleased with the facilities in the prison and the management of the same. He directed the officials to take necessary steps to solve the problems.

Dr Rajeshwari Devi, Wenlock Superintendent, Dharmaraj, PWD Executive Engineer, Mahesh Kumar Jigane, Jail Superintendent and several MCC officials were present.
