Mangaluru, june 09, 2017: Reports confirm a case at MIA where customs officers of air intelligence unit busted an age old modus operandi of gold smuggling by three passengers, concealed in rectum, at Mangaluru airport on June 8, Thursday.
The passengers had arrived from Dubai by separate Air India and Jet Airways flights.
The gold, in the form of rectangular smooth pieces of one kg gold bars totally weighing 1660.75 grams valued at Rs 49.15 lakh, was packed in carbon paper and black coloured adhesive tape and brought by concealing in rectum. All the three passengers hail from Ulhasnagar, Thane in Maharashtra.
Among them, two passengers, who had worked as a gang, were arrested and produced before the judge, who remanded them in judicial custody.
