Udupi, Jan 15, 2016: The District Sessions Court which has convicted a person in the case of kidnapping a minor girl and marrying her illegally has sentenced him to three years of imprisonment on January 14, Thursday. His accomplice has been sentenced to two year jail term for abetting the crime.
The convicts are Sudarshana Kirana (28) from Kunjalu in Aroor village and Gururaj Handa(26) of Brahmavar. If Sudarshana who had married the minor girl has to pay a penalty of Rs 3000, the court has ordered Gururaj to pay a sum of Rs 2000 as penalty.
The incident had taken place on August 2, 2010 when Sudarshana had allegedly threatened and kidnapped the girl. He had then secured fake certificates from a medical officer to hide the real age of the girl and had married her at the sub-registrar’s office. It is learnt, Gururaj had helped him avail the fake documents.
G Krishnamurthi, the then Brahmavar inspector who had arrested the accused had filed the charge sheet .
How sad the young girl being trapped by a man and forcibly getting married. In some cases men act as the maniac. The court has to be strict in such cases.
Is the 3 years of imprisonment enough for this crime. Just think of the girl. What situation she might have faced in the past 6 years? Our law has to be revised that’s why the crimes are on increase.
