Mangaluru Sep 29, 2016: Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader has informed that, coupon system to avail ration cards will be launched in a fully fledged manner from October 1st.
Addressing media at Circuit House today September, 29 Thursday Khader said that, people face lot of problems while acquiring ration cards as they have to wait for long. As an alternative measure coupon system will be introduced, he added.
He also said that each family will be provided with 3 kg of rice and 2 kg of wheat for three months in order to clear the existing stock. As people demand more rice instead of Wheat, from January, 4 kg of Rice and 1 kg of Wheat will be provided and Ragi will also be provided if required, he added.
He also said that, strict action will be taken as there is lot of irregularities in distribution of BPL cards to the families with APL status. The government has simplified the procedure regarding obtaining a ration card. Earlier, a person had to fulfill 14 criteria to get ration card but now it has been simplified and brought down to four, he added.
