Countryboat fishing resumes ; fishermen told to strictly adhere to instructions

Mangaluru, April 13, 2020:   As countryboat fishing has been permitted in Dakshina Kannada district after almost three weeks of lockdown, a meeting  was convened at the DC office on Sunday on the precautionary measures to be taken by fishermen.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has asked all countryboat fishermen to strictly adhere to the instructions of the government. Social distancing has to be strictly maintained at fish purchase places, she said adding Coastal Security Police will be keeping a strict vigil.

Fishermen cannot  themselves resort to retail selling, instead the fish should be auctioned  at the designated places and sold only to  some identified sellers. A total of 11 such places for  auctioning of fish was identified at the meeting.

Additional DC Roopa, DCPs Arunamshu Giri, Laxmi Ganesh, Assistant Commissioner Madan,  District Health Officer Dr Ramachandra Bayiri,. Fisheries Deputy Director Harish and others were present.
