Mangalore, June 13, 2014: Chetan S Kolavi, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Ullal town municipal council (TMC) was caught after the Lokayukata, based on a complaint by civil contractor Guruprakash laid a trap for him June 13. The senior official of the Ullal TMC was trapped while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 cash.
One Guruprakash complained, Chetan Kolavi CEO demanded 16 percent of a Rs 17.5-lac project, and refused to sign the documents to initiate the project unless the money was paid. As per instructions of the Lokayukta, Chetan informed the culprit that he would pay him Rs 50,000 as first installment.
Guruprakash contacted the said CEO to pay the amount. Chetan first asked him to come to Thokkottu, changed the meeting place, told him to come to Kapikad. He again changed plans asked him to come his home.
The Lokayukta officials all the while kept a close watch, just as Chetan accepted cash of (Rs 50,000 ), they entered the CEO’s house and nabbed him and seized the money duly recorded.
Following the successful of the trap, the Lokayukta officials conducted a total search of alleged culprit Chetan’s residence.
