Cops launch drive against drug menace ; raid several shops, hotels in Mangalore

Mangalore , Feb 7, 2013 : Mangalore Police, on the evening of February 6 Wednesday raided several shops, hotels, bars and lodges in Mangalore  as part of its endeavour to  eradicate the drug menace. The latest move is in the backdrop of the suicide of  17 year old Sneha who was addicted to drugs.

 Shops near Valencia, Sharada College, hotels and cafe at Gold Finch, Samruddi lodge near Market road were raided. Though all the raids followed a tip off, nothing illegal was found in any of the raided places.


If a team led by ACP Jagannath and Pandeshwar inspector Diwaker raided two shops near Valencia on the suspicion that they were supplying ganja,  another team of Kadri police raided shops near Sharada Vidyalaya. Yet another team of Bunder police raided Gold Finch.

 

There  is no clear-cut information on the exact number of raids while there is information that the Kadri police alone have formed at least six squads. At one of the raided places, eyewitnesses said people escaped from the rear. Though the place was said to be shut down, cops found the air conditioner on as well as cigarettes and straws.
