Mangaluru, April 22, 2016 : There was alarm and anxiety writ large on the faces of many who had gathered around Mangaluru’s famous Milagres Church on April 22, Friday morning. The news that made rounds was that someone had planted a ’bomb’ inside the church building.
The information received was that the police had a security alert on April 20 and had asked the Church authorities to be cautious. But, on April 22, the police reportedly got information that a bomb has been actually planted inside the church building much to the panic of the church authorities.
Soon a bomb detection squad and a canine squad rushed to the spot. The church building was scanned and a suspicious looking object was found. The pack was carefully opened and inside it was a box full of wires.
It was then that the truth unfolded. The whole exercise was part of a mock drill to test the alertness of the security agencies. This was revealed by Inspector Dinaker Shetty.
He said the department would conduct similar mock drills at other strategic locations once in every six months as it would go a long way in enlightening public on how to be on guard and manage such situations effectively.
