Cops crack Kakkinje double murder case : arrest accused in Gadag

Mangaluru, Jan 16, 2016: District Superintendent of Police Dr  Sharanappa has informed that the police have arrested a person identified as Raju alias Ravi (26) from Kallavaddara in Gadag  in connection with the Kakkinje double murder case. It may be recalled here that 94 year old Varghese alias K V Varki and his wife Eliyamma alias Elikutti (85) were hacked to death at their house at Kakkinje in Belthangady taluk on the night of January 10.

 

 

Addressing a press meet here on January 16, Saturday, the  SP stated that the valuables stolen from the house of the couple were  yet to be recovered. He also made it clear that robbery was the intention behind the murder.

He further stated that the accused Raju had as many as 10 cases against him  and arrest warrants in eight cases. The cases were registered in Hubballi and Gadag, he added.

The SP stated that Raju who worked as a construction worker  had  approached the couple on the night of January 10 seeking water and then  robbed their jewels and valuables after murdering them.

It has been gathered that the accused had taken to crime at the age of 14.
