Cops bust Bondel robbery, temple burglary cases; arrest 4

Mangaluru, July 15,2015:  Four accused wanted in several cases of thefts in the city and around have been arrested  by the Mangaluru South and North Police.

Informing this to reporters at the Mangaluru Police Commissioner’s Office on July 14, Tuesday, DCP Shantaraju said  the recent case of  assault on a lone woman and theft in her house at PWD Quarters at Bondel has also been busted with the arrest of one person.

The accused is Taranath (23) of Padavinangdy. He along with a few others, one of them  smeared with vermillion on his face and clothes to make the woman named Radha believe that they had met with an accident, had managed to get into the house on the pretext of asking water.


However, later they tied the woman, a stenographer in Commercial Tax Department office and had  looted cash and gold worth Rs 89000 on the night of July 11. Police  are on the lookout for the other accused in the case. Taranath is learnt to have told the police that all the looted cash have been taken by others while he  was given only Rs 1000 before they fled, but what he got actually was just Rs 600. A motorcycle apart from cash has been seized from him.

 Temple thief arrested: In another case, police have arrested Mohammad Rafiq alias Rafiq alias Rickshaw Rafiq (26) of Kalkatta Manjanady  near Mulki on the charges of  burglary in temples and houses in Kerala as well as Karnataka. He was also wanted in some kidnapping cases.

Police informed that though he was once arrested earlier and granted bail he had failed to  appear before court following which warrants were issued against him. He was also wanted in the case of looting a Kerala businessmen in Konaje  and also another businessman at Byatarayanapura in Bengaluru. He had also stolen idols from a temple in Kundapur apart from another temple in Manjeshwar and two more in Kumble. He was also wanted in connection with burglaries in Kambalapadavu, Konaje and Montugoli Temples.

 2 more thieves arrested: The DCP also informed that Police have on July 14, Tuesday arrested Rajesh alias Appu(33) of Tannirbavi and Altaf (23) of KC road on charges of robbing   a cash of Rs 1,740 from a pedestrian named Radhakrishna at Baikampady Industrial Area on July 6 after stabbing him with a knife.
Altaf was wanted in similar two cases in Mangaluru South Police Station and Mangaluru North Police station limits. Rajesh has two cases against him in Mangaluru North Police Station.

A knife, blade,  brasslight made of silver, a Samsung cell phone, a bike and some cash has been seized from them.
