Conservation of greenery,forests are high on govt agenda : Ashisara

Mangalore, Feb 15, 2013: Western Ghats Task Force Chairman Ananth Hegde Ashisara has said that the state government has earmarked a sum of Rs 3 crore to develop one village in the state as a Green Village.


Speaking to reporters at the DC office on February 14, Wednesday, he said a total sum of Rs 18 crore has been earmarked for protection of greenery and for forest conservation. The Western Ghats Task Force Chairman also stated that  conservation of greenery and forests will be high on the agenda of the government in the days to come.

Continuing, he said  special emphasis would also be laid on bee keeping and growing jackruit trees.  He said Rs 2 crore would be utilised towards planting saplings on either sides of the roads. 


He also stated that schemes of developing Kandla plantation and growing sandalwood trees and Devarakadu trees would be taken up in DK, Shimoga and  Kodagu districts. A sum of  Rs 66 crore is also earmarked for eco tourism and wildlife conservation, Ashisara informed.


Regional Forest Officer Clifford Lobo and Padmanabha Gowda were also present.
