Congress trying to weaken Panchayat Raj system, alleges MP Shobha

Udupi, Feb 11, 2016 : Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje has alleged that the Udupi Zilla Panchayat had become a haven  of corruption during the previous Congress regime.

Addressing the media after releasing the party manifesto at the BJP Office here on February 10, Wednesday, she struck a note of optimism when she said the party would retain its position in the Zilla Panchayat in the upcoming elections.

Alleging that the Congress was hell bent upon weakening the  Panchayat Raj system as it tried to do in case of the Lokayukta, she said  it was the stern warning  from the Union Government that grants would be  withheld  which  forced the state government to conduct the elections

Dubbing the Congress government in the state as ’irresponsible’’ she said one really wonders as to on what grounds the party would face the elections.

She said the BJP would lay more emphasis on solid waste management in gram panchayats.
