Mangaluru, Oct 19, 2020: Congress leader and MCC Opposition leader Abdul Rauf has taken strong exception to the recent statement made by Mangaluru South MLA during the Alake market inauguration, that only foundation laying was done during the previous rule.
Speaking to reporters here on October 19, Monday, Rauf said it was during the erstwhile Congress rule in Mangaluru that tenders were invited and work orders given in 2017 for the Alake as well as Suratkal, Kavoor, Urwa, Jeppu, Bejai, Kankanady and Kadri wards.
He said though criticisms are common in politics, an MLA should not issue misleading statements. He also claimed that the MLA who has not brought any new project during his tenure, has been taking credit for the works initiated during the Congress rule.
"Bejai market was also completed during our tenure, funds were sanctioned for Alake market under Nagarothana scheme and tenders invited. The Congress is ready for any open debate on this issue,"
he challenged
Corporator and former mayor Shashidhar Hegde who also spoke, said the BJP rule in the MCC should first solve the Central market issue. He said the MCC administration was completely neglecting the opposition parties and alleged that the Mayor was helpless.
Corporators Naveen D’Souza, A C Vinay Raj, Praveen Chandra Alva and others were present.
