Congress protests against rail fare hike; demands immediate roll back

Mangalore, June 23, 2014:  Congress leaders and workers under the aegis of the Mangalore North Block Congress Committee staged a protest at the Mangalore Central Railway Station on June 23, Monday  to condemn the hike in rail passenger fares and freight charges.

The protestors blocked the movement of trains for sometime by climbing on the Mangalore-Bhatkal train and shouting slogans against the hike. They left the venue only after the Railway and Bunder police arrived at the spot.

Addressing the protestors, Suresh Ballal, senior Congress leader  made a mockery of the ‘Achche Din Aag Gaye Slogan’ of the BJP and questioned whether hike in rail fares has brought in good days.

 He also flayed the  Central Government plans to buy a chartered flight for the Prime Minister by spending Rs 100 crores at a time when people were suffering due to soaring prices. He urged the government to immediately withdraw the hike in fares.

GA Bava who also spoke said the hike in rail fares was a big burden on the common man.

Vishwas Kumar Das, Mangalore North Block Congress President, Lancelot Pinto, Corporator, Prakash Salian, former corporator Nagendra, TK Sudhir and others participated in the protest.
