Mangalore, Mar 14, 2014: Three labourers from Bihar who were at work at a construction site at Urva had a narrow escape when a compound wall collapsed over them on March 14, Friday afternoon.
Sources said the three labourers were clearing the debris when the mud compound wall caved in. Immediately, other labourers rushed to their rescue and rescued them from beneath a pile of mud. There is a fear that the compound wall, if it collapses further would endanger nearby houses.
The injured labourers Manju (20), Munna (22) and Raja (22) were admitted to a hospital. It is learnt, the works underway are of a government project and that the construction is entrusted to a private company.
It has been gathered that a compound wall behind the building had collapsed ten months ago in a similar incident damaging the nearby road. The road has not yet been repaired, say locals.
No complaint has been lodged in connection with today’s incident.
