Mangaluru, Aug 26, 2019: Compensation cheques were distributed to the people affected by the recent heavy rains and floods in the Mangaluru South Assembly constituency limits. MLA of Mangaluru South Vedavyas Kamath handed over the cheques to the beneficiaries. A total of 214 affected people received a compensation of Rs 10,000 each while five persons whose houses were partially damaged received cheques for Rs 95,000 each.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamath said the compensation has been distributed as per the instructions of the chief minister during his recent visit to the district. He said compared to the past, the compensation amount to flood hit people has been increased. Pointing out that a total of 14 houses were completely damaged this time, he said nine families of Jeppinamogaru are unable to reside in their damaged houses. There is a plan to provide them Rs 5 lakh for construction of houses. As a temporary measure they will get Rs 5,000 as rent allowance upto one year.
